What is Belotero®?
Belotero® is a hyaluronic acid dermal filler made by Merz Aesthetic. This product is often referred to as the "starter filler" because it can be ideal for people who are new to this type of treatment. The hyaluronic acid filler infuses superficial layers of the skin with a naturally-occurring sugar compound. Hyaluronic acid is what gives our joints "slip" to move smoothly. It works by absorbing water and acting as a cushion. Injected into the skin, the particles of hyaluronic acid form a type of sponge matrix that expands as the acid binds to water molecules.

Who is an Ideal Candidate for Belotero®?
You may be a great candidate for Belotero® regardless of your skin type and tone. This filler is used across them all! It is ideal for the treatment of fine lines and creases such as the nasolabial folds that form around the nose and mouth. Belotero can also treat the fine lines around the lips and marionette lines that give the mouth a downturned appearance. Due to it's lightness, Belotero® may not be the best filler choice for deeper creases or very thick skin. Your provider will perform a thorough assessment of your tissue before making their recommendation for filler treatment.
What Makes Belotero® Different from Other Fillers?
There are several dermal fillers that are made with hyaluronic acid, so what makes Belotero® special? This product is thinner than most other fillers. This enables us to use it in the uppermost layers of the skin without risking the formation of lumps or a blue tint on the skin. This tint is known as the Tyndall Effect and it is related to thicker fillers. Because Belotero® is so thin, it is a great choice for treating shallow lines. It is also an excellent product for people with thin skin.
How Long Will the Results Last?
Your body naturally breaks down the hyaluronic acid that is deposited beneath wrinkles and hollows. In most cases, we see evidence of the breakdown around six months after treatment. At that time, you can schedule a touch-up to maintain your desired appearance.
