To age gracefully might look different for every person. For some, plastic surgery feels like the best approach to addressing the signs of aging. For others, aging gracefully includes using quality skincare products and performing home treatments like facial cupping or gua sha. Then there's the in-between. This is where many people fall. Perhaps this is where you fall; in that area between good skincare and plastic surgery for facial rejuvenation. This is the space within which we use a variety of modalities, including injectables like Jeuveau®.
We're pleased to perform Jeuveau injections for qualified patients. To learn more about this injectable wrinkle reducer, schedule a visit at Aventura Dermatology by calling 754-544-9030.
What Can Jeuveau® Treat?
You may have heard Jeuveau described as "Newtox." This is because of its similarity to Botox® Cosmetic. While there are many similarities, one of the few differences is that Jeuveau® has been manufactured specifically for the treatment of stubborn frown lines. If you have additional lines and creases that are of concern, your provider can talk with you about the treatment options that can be advantageous. Fortunately, you can combine Jeuveau with many other injectables, including Botox and dermal fillers.
Jeuveau® vs. Botox®
Being called "Newtox" makes Jeuveau sound just like Botox. It's not. The two are formulated with botulinum toxin A. This active ingredient works by inhibiting the uptake of the neurotransmitter that causes muscles to contract. Without the neurotransmitter, the muscle that has become overly tight and toned relaxes. This allows the overlying skin to also smooth out, reducing or eliminating the appearance of dynamic wrinkles.
Beyond the active ingredient and basic effect on the muscles, Jeuveau differs from Botox in its scope of treatment. Being formulated specifically for the correction of glabellar lines (frown lines), Jeuveau may work better in this area for some people. Also, being formulated for such a specific use, Jeuveau isn't currently used for as many treatment areas as Botox. The latter is now used for frown lines as well as worry lines on the forehead, bunny lines on the nose, crow's feet, drooping eyebrows, and more.
Do the Effects of Jeuveau® Last Longer than Botox®?
Botox is known to last about four months for most people. That's an average. Sometimes, the effects wear off as soon as three months after treatment. Sometimes, they last as long as six months. Jeuveau isn't much different, on average. However, more people note that their treatment effects last five to six months.
What Happens During My Appointment?
If you're interested in reducing lines and wrinkles, schedule an appointment at our Aventura, FL office. During your consultation, your provider will listen to your goals and develop a treatment recommendation around them. Your treatment may be conducted immediately if you so choose. Jeuveau injections take only about 15 minutes at most. Your treatment may take only slightly longer if you would like to combine Jeuveau injections with other injectables, like Botox or dermal fillers.
After your Jeuveau treatment, you can get back to your normal activities with few restrictions. The effects of your injections build over several days, peaking at about one week.
What Side Effects Can Occur After Getting Jeuveau®?
You may develop mild side effects after your Jeuveau treatment. Most commonly, we see patients experience minor swelling and redness. Soreness and tenderness are possible, as is bruising. All of these side effects are expected to subside within 12 hours or less.
