WHERE ART MEETS SCIENCE

Skin Care Awareness Month: Keeping Your Skin Healthy at Any Age

Your skin is one of the most important organs in your entire body. Not only does keeping it healthy and protected against the elements and pollution, it also helps you to look and feel your best. Even with its natural resiliency and amazing healing factors, your skin can still be damaged over time, causing early signs of aging and even increasing your risks of developing skin cancer. That’s why proper skin care is so vital for keeping your skin healthy, strong, and looking amazing.

In the spirit of skin care awareness month, here are the best ways to approach your own skin care at any age and stage of life.

Always Protect Your Skin From the Sun

Though the world as we know it wouldn’t survive without this solar system’s friendly neighborhood sun, it doesn’t always play nicely—especially when it comes to its harmful UV rays. From simple sunburn to skin cancer, the sun can do just as much harm to our skin as it does good. As such, if you want to keep your skin looking and feeling healthy, you should apply sunscreen whenever you plan on heading out for the day. When you do, it’s recommended that it be at least SPF 30 for optimal protection. Don’t forget to re-apply every 2 hours!

Moisturize, Moisturize, and then Moisturize More

Dry skin is another big hurdle you’ll face while maintaining proper skin care. Whether you’re a fan of sizzling hot showers or you live in a dry, chilly climate, there are a lot of ways your skin can dry out. Thankfully, moisturizer has never been more effective or readily available!

Cleansing and moisturizing your face at least once a day can do wonders for your facial skin. Likewise, moisturizing your hands after washing can help keep your fingers and palms soft and smooth. And if you’re a real pro, you can use moisturizing sunscreen to knock two things out at once.

Keep Tobacco Smoke Far Away From You

Finally—as you’ve likely heard many times before—avoid smoking cigarettes or any tobacco-related product to help your skin stay healthy and radiant. Tobacco is one of the quickest ways to wrinkle and sag your skin prematurely. That’s just one more reason to kick the habit for good!
